What Comfort Zone?

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

Have you ever been thrown way out of your comfort zone? I'm talking thrown so far you didn't think you'd ever find it again?

Well I sure did! While I was in California this past week I did something that for me personally was something I never ever did before.

My friend Senicia who lives in California asked if I knew how to ride a bike and if I would like to take a little ride along the board walk. I love the beach, the weather was fantastic, it all sounded great! And it was at first.

For the first time ever I rode an Electric bike. Electric bikes are pretty amazing and a lot of fun. You still have to pedal but it does give you a little extra boost so you don't get so tired pedaling. And the faster you pedal, the faster the bike goes. Lucky for me my legs weren't complete blobs of jelly when we were done. My butt on the other hand.....

I biked for 15+ miles on an electric bike. I rode from Newport Beach all the way to Huntington Beach and back! I took a Ferry from Newport Beach to Balboa Beach, that was a lot of fun! Now to some of you, you may be thinking "What's the big deal? It was an electric bike!" That my dear friends was not the problem.

I can ride a bike, I'm not as good as I used to be and I am a 40 year old who works to much and doesn't exercise enough. The problem was riding this heavy electric bike while dodging people and cars! I am happy to say that the bushes in California are pretty soft when you fall into them. The curbs however, they're pretty rough. I jumped the curb more then once while crossing the intersection, in front of people.

I also fell twice into the bushes trying to avoid light poles, people, and other metal objects that were sticking out of the ground.

As I was riding and pedaling and trying to avoid people and cars I kept telling myself I needed to relax and enjoy the ride. I wanted to enjoy the wind in my hair and the beautiful weather. At one time I realized that my hand was gripping the brake so hard my hand started cramping!

But I did it! I think had I known what I was in for I would have opted for a glass of greens while sitting on the balcony enjoying the view instead.

I am proud of myself. I lived through it. I was and honestly still am sore but now I can say I did it not knowing what was going to happen. I let myself step out of my comfort zone and just went for it.

And that's the point right? When it comes to stepping out of your comfort zone? You just don't know what is going to happen. You have to roll with the punches and fall into the bushes, then you have to get back up and get back on the bike and just keep going.

Stopping wasn't an option for me, unless it i was being stopped by the curb. But even then I had to get over the curb and keep going. Giving up wasn't an option either. The same is true in life. We don't know what the future has in store for us, we don't know what tomorrow will bring. We have to enjoy the moment, remember the moment. Whether it is good or bad, we learn from it, we grow from it and hopefully we are better for it, even if we are left a little sore.

See you soon babe!
